Looks like it's all circulating around Lincoln - so we are missing out on everything in the "eye of the storm" ! Grrrr!

Problem sorted - a nice tight little storm eventually came through! A bit of thunder but saw no lightning.

I experienced 3 separate thunderstorms today in the Yorkshire Dales. First rain I've seen since 13/7 in Edinburgh. Quite novel to get wet!

3 storms in one day! I don't think I can ever recall experiencing that, either at home or anywhere else.

No thunder here but astounding rainfall this morning. In less than 3 hours between 6:39am and 9:30am I recorded 41.8mm 

Never seen anything like it in the years I've been recording or before. Almost as much as my wettest July day in 2015 which had 43.8mm for the entire day.

Peak rainfall rate - 123.8mm/hr.

Peak totals falling within:

5 minutes - 4.8mm

15 minutes - 13mm

30 minutes - 19.4mm

60 minutes - 26.6mm 

I have seen greater intensities over short periods but to get over an inch in an hour is incredulous.

I have data on frequency of intense rainfall at Dyce from a 1969 publication covering the years 1946-1968 and there was only one day in that 23 years when an inch fell within 2 hours and 2 days when 0.8 inches/20mm fell within 1 hour.

Aberdeen's wettest day on record occurred just after the publication on 24th July 1970 when 109mm fell at Mannofield so probable there could have been a similar hourly rainfall rate on that day which would imply a 1 in 50 year event.
