A very odd NW-SE apparent streamer has set up running from South London to the Kent/Sussex border at Rye. Not seen one like that before, but then how often do you get instability and lines of thunderstorms in a northwesterly flow?

I was in Felbridge earlier as the above was developing and there was an almighty clap of thunder, some huge rain drops and then as I headed Nrth towards Caterham I just left it behind me, developing further. If it wasn’t for work appts, I’d have stayed around or driven further South East.

And as fast as it came, it went. Just as the Meto released the severe weather warning for it.

Looks like some more storms bubbling up north of London in the past half hour to add to the isolated cells over Cambridgeshire and Leicestershire.

Also one over Kent now.

Plus some strange light echoes surrounding the storms, I wonder if it could be insects? I know the flying ant swarms were showing up on the radar the other day.

Storm forming literally overhead. Out of nowhere. Huge convective rain drops and thunder already. Things kicking off.

It's only moving away very slowly South Eastwards. Medway towns, Gravesend must be getting a battering.

There were some threatening clouds earlier here at the airport. They have drifted eastwards and it stayed dry here. Looks like there are some heavy showers in Essex, south Cambridgeshire and Kent.

Almost continuous thunder for the past hour.  Just started to rain but the sun’s also shining.

After last year's bumper season, feels like we have reverted to type with  "the silent 2010s."
