I had my doubts about the snow but it really didn't disappoint , must have helped 6 or 7 cars up the Oxford Road , caused chaos .

If the fall of snow had been for 3 or 4 hours  the amounts would have been huge , very impressed though

Should add , hoping for a top up later this afternoon /evening

Amazing photos - thanks for sharing Marcus! - Just makes me wonder - do we really need an easterly if we (some parts) can get so much snow from a plain old westerly - I think we saw similar on 31st January 2019 - again that rain/snow came in from the west. Hope you get more snow. I wonder how much snow there was in south of Ox where Kieran is?

We get some good falls of snow from the West ( wet snow) causes more chaos lol

Snow is snow for me , don't care where it comes from lol

Hopefully it will stall very soon and decide to return southwards PDQ

Been out for a walk with the dog, and I would say it's around 10cm deep, and it all came in a very short space of time. It only snowed from around 8.30am to 10am, yet deposited 4 inches of the stuff.

As Marcus says, had it been a longer lasting band, this would have been up there with the epic falls.

Melting away fast now, but it'll do for me for this winter. No more moaning now.

Nice photos there Marcus. I see you're over 300 feet asl. I reckon that helped.

To echo the others great to see those pics.

That would be epic and mind blowing to see in this neck of the woods nowadays.

Good pics. Textbook English event with temps just around 0C and wet snow accumulating. Reminded me of December 2017, although that was a bigger drop.

I'd take that any day over winds from the East , makes the snow too dry .

Not seen replies and Goodness me the size of those flakes Marcus! - Like feathers!

Must be full of water - love watching the snow fall - so therapeutic & relaxing!

Glad you got some of the whites stuff too Kieran - Exeter and many of us didn't get any 'proper' falling and lying snow and what did fall froze and then when it came along it was sleety slush. - Only a week or so back you were moaning weren't you on here, yet a week later (today) you probably are had the most snow since the BFTE in Feb/March 2018?!

Let's hope February delivers for the far south west, south coast and SE as well. - Even parts of the SE missed out on the snow as well.

Main roads are ok now but side roads , paths and car parks are lethal

Takes me back to the late 70's and 80's , nice to see but people need to be careful

There was lot of people and kids around here yesterday and up on the highest hill west of Galley Common which must be around 200m or so as my house down is 135m.  We went up there to the top but stay away from others as they were sledging and having fun.  It was nice to see everyone in high spirit.  Today was a bit less as many were in school or work and the 200m hill look empty, maybe the farmer closed them off as there access public gates to go up there otherwise is normally cows around as there a sign warning them that they can be aggressive.

Snow levels around 5cm now little melting only by nature of where the sun shone.  That the one I agreed snow melt under the sun but not warm over cast skies come and take it away from us as it did on previous dusting events earlier this year.

Thought of bumping this up a little...

This was one year ago today Marcus on 24th January 2021! We had something called weather to discuss and was in the midst of a SSW wind reversal and looking at stella GFS charts and easterly winds and a split PV yet we were in a westerly QBO - although it wasn't a BFTE - things were so much more exciting and interesting a year ago today even Kieran (Moomin) saw up to 10cm of snow albeit briefly and even snow wa forecast for Richard of Aberdeen.

Love those photos you shared Marcus - such huge flakes as well!

Last winter took a little while to get going. Our main event came between 7-10th February.

However, by this date last year there had been three brief high ground snow events locally that delivered a photogenic couple of cm's each time.

This year is a shocker.
