Okay, so we've had some snow lying on the ground since 24th December and it doesn't look as if it is going to shift anytime soon....  It thaws a bit but then we have another shower or two.  The skiing in the Cairngorms would be fantastic this season, but unfortunately with Covid and the lack of the Funicular, it's closed.  Many locals are out and about on cross country skis though.  :-)

There's to be frost overnight and blue skies tomorrow so I should be out and about taking photos.  (Spouse is very patient.)

PS  I've added the links to open in a new window, so clicking on the pictures should make them bigger....  Thanks, Darren.

I took this screen grab from the A939 snow gates earlier today and thought, looking beyond the gates, it may be a while before the road is fully open:

It's a beautiful picture

And I've loved looking through Daff's, too.

I have many pictures from Essex that look just like that. Problem is they were all taken over thirty years ago !!

To me it's all rather sad to see us being excited by the kind of snowfall depths we used to see here on Dartmoor at least once a year. I can remember many snowfalls where it was so deep walking was difficult.

Since 2013 or so though, nothing, no snow worth mentioning here ...

Today we had minus 5 deg C or thereabouts and I tried playing with bubbles in the frost, but they burst!  Then we went a walk up the hill behind the house.  There was blue sky and sparkling snow, but unfortunately all the snow on the branches of the trees came off with wind and the thaw earlier in the week.  Here's today's pics....

Haven't seen snow like that since the blizzard of '78.

A smattering of snow I suppose you could call it in parts of Dorset in past few hours but not really proper snow and only rain here though for some people it's probably an event of a lifetime. Waiting for a deep cold easterly and powder snow as that's really the only way to get decent snow here. Hens teeth come to mind though.

Beautiful images esp the red squirrel.

Perversely, about 5cm of snow here this morning, melting though...

I will second that.

It always amazes me how Scotland is so close geographically yet weather wise, it sometimes feels like a different planet in terms of the amount of snow you get.

Thank you for the nice comments - glad to share.

Unfortunately it's been dull since the weekend, so I did some housework, but today, dull or not, I had to get out the bike….
