Insignificant overnight rain here in Lincolnshire - 2mm - and now clear, gusty and pleasant.
Lots of twigs down from the lime trees on the Green.
Local river is up but not as high as Sunday.

The piece is inaccurate about the Wockhardt UK site in Wrexham - that is where the vaccine is put into vials, not where it is actually produced.

But the Met Office amber warning did not cover some of the regions worst affected, that is certain.

I think yesterday/last night will be etched in the memory for quite some time to come.

Not just the incessant rain, but the sudden drop in temperature and the sudden transition from heavy rain to heavy snow from west to east across the NW. A fascinating weather event.

As it turns out, Didsbury and Northenden was a very, very close call. Despite Manchester being a wet city, I’ve never in my 34 years of living heard of a major River Mersey flood event in south Manchester. Thankfully it didn’t happen last night but it came extremely, extremely close. Makes me wonder if the few hours of heavy snow stalled a lot of the runoff temporarily and prevented a catastrophic flood event.

What a night!

Hi Roger, again looks like this system delivered a lot more here compared to your location.  We had quite a downpour after 11pm which turned to heavy snow around midnight giving a patchy covering.  I recorded 10mm of rain for the day, much of that fell in the short period around midnight.  The Trent here is very high, but still not as high as it was around this time last year.

Amazing variation sometimes in this neck of the woods, Andy. We often miss out on exciting local stuff. An old Lincoln mate used to explain it as "the horseshoe around The Wash" - the C-shaped zone where rules seem not to apply - like the Torchwood "rift".

The relief of the Witham Valley and then The Wolds seem to have quite an effect on eastward progress and development of weather systems. Caz is not far away and her local weather is often quite different to ours.

Yes quite a remarkable storm really and actually today with a breeze and cold air has dried the ground quite quickly.

Cheshire and Warrington areas hit badly especially Northwich which has pretty much all roads shut in it.

It's worth remembering that the Didsbury flood basin project was completed in 1978 with the golf course as sacrificial victim in time of flood. Given how close the Basin got to being overtopped - a matter of centimetres according to the press - the 2021 flood event would have been truly catastrophic if it hadn't been built. One up for the EA
