The Met Office T-96 fax has the low intensifying as moves into the North Sea on Thursday with a central pressure of 951mb. There is a steep pressure gradient that clips Eastern parts of Scotland before the low moves further NE. One to watch perhaps in terms of high winds for that area.

Yes, there is a SWW for Wednesday into Thursday (for snow and ice) and it refers to the wind during that period (with accumulations of ice also being mentioned). A real winter's storm even if it is not snowy for all.

A few wobbles around the 12z output so far in the same general pattern.

Storm Christoph now named by MetO. Expect considerable rain and flooding in N England (150mm on hills suggested in BBC lunchtime weather) and Northerly gales down the E Coast

A SWW induced perhaps by a SSW?

Would be a dream come true if it was all snow that fell from this system.

Some of the totals would be amazing, and the whole country blanketed.

One GFS 12z ensemble has this area down for a foot of snow.

Not good.

Wonder if this could warrant a red warning ?

A horrendous amount of rain especially for western slopes. I’m worried about this one.

Joe, I follow your concern for the whole region and the potential damage for our area. Keep vigilant and stay safe to all.

The amber warning roughly covering that area already covers upto 200mm of rain.

Rain just cleared here for now. Can't see Haydock being on this weekend !

From December 27th 2020, zonality will be banned from mixing with the UK. We appreciate that this may come as a shock to younger people and old Uncle Barty. This ban will last for a minimum of ten days.

Met O amber looks somewhat out of kilter with some of the model forecasts.

You really feel for those living near rivers in Wales N England and the Midlands. Here we go again and in the worst of a pandemic and lockdown this time 😱

Yes, I'm just hoping it won't be as bad as some of the forecasts and models are suggesting for those areas.

Up here we will have some very unpleasant weather especially later tomorrow and Thursday with some potentially high snowfall totals inland on higher ground with the added ingredient of drifting. Here (and other lowland or coastal areas) it looks like being cold, (very) wet and windy - not nice.

Indeed. Wales doesn't even appear to be in the amber zone. Compared to the amber for south east England last Saturday (which I understand was not a tech issue).

As expected they have removed the coastal strip of Aberdeen from the SWW on Thursday although there is a suggestion in the wording of up to 30mm of rain to look forward to instead. Christoph still looks like bringing hazardous wintry conditions further inland with altitude up here.

I see that Doc, also touch and go here. On our snow warning for southern Scotland its mostly rain around the Forth Estuary/North Edinburgh but heavy snow in The Pentlands. I'm somewhere inbetween so may get a bit of slush! Not too sure what happens Friday? The FAX shows an occlusion moving south over northern Scotland

Looks like a bit of a fail for the met office virtually everywhere under the amber warning are dry
