Month-to-date is circa 140mm now, but need to sort out data after a dead datalogger.

Average-ish 54mm here (-24mm)
We have magically avoided most of the wetter events but rarely go a day without at least 1mm

150.8mm here now. Just 3mm off my October record of 153.8mm in 2009 and 11mm from my monthly record of 161.8mm in January 2016

Top picture in this article just a few streets away from me after 34mm fell between 11pm yesterday and 9:30am today - the vast majority in just 5 hours. Had subsided completely by lunchtime.

More than making up for the astonishing lack of wet days between April 2018 and July 2020. Just one day during those 28 months recorded 20mm of rain. Today was the fourth since 12th August.

If only we could see something similar happening with respect to the lack of 10cm snowfalls, the absence of which has been far more notable and ridiculous

And this is coming from someone who claims that they never get any extreme weather in their part of the world anymore.

I would say that if that isn't an extreme form of weather, then I don't know what on Earth is.

LTA = 1981-2010 average for the month, season or year in question at that particular station.

Since there has been enough rain to make up an official rain day during the last 24 hours, it is my duty to report that here. However, the above amounts haven't been much and I'm sure that this will be followed by a flood of other posts from people who will be reporting much higher totals than me not just for the last 24 hours, but also (and especially so) for this month as a whole.

Our totals might look fairly high, but it has to be borne in mind that a lot of that has been down to what happened on one particular day when the UK as a whole, recorded its wettest October day on record.

Furthermore, our 1981-2010 averages are higher for this month than what they for any other month within the entire year. This means that if you take that one very wet day at the very start of this month out of the equation, this hasn't actually been all that wet a month overall, and would actually be running much drier than average overall in terms of the actual amounts at both of those stations if that was the case.

Indeed, I have lost track of the number of times recently where I have seen a very unsettled outlook with the GFS model showing it to be wetter than average, only for that to end up being drier than average when that particular period comes up with there then being less rain than what was originally expected.

That is happening just now as well because there is even a fragmenting band of rain crossing the country just now which is refusing to fall in this part of the world and so, we will probably be lucky to get even a fraction of a millimetre from that over the next 24 hours once again, let alone an official rain day.

That is therefore, yet another factor which surely makes Edinburgh the most boring part of the UK when it comes to our weather as that rain WILL be falling elsewhere, with other members of this forum no doubt reporting higher totals for their neck of the woods as a result.

LTA = 1981-2010 average for the month, season or year in question at that particular station.

Since there has now been more rain during this month at both of those stations than the respective 1981-2010 October average for each of those stations, this month will now go down as being wetter than average overall in terms of the actual amounts at both of those stations, regardless of what happens between now and the end of this month.
