Trying to refresh my memory of the heatwave maxima...

Aug 6: 30.1

Aug 7: 36.4

Aug 8: 34.5

Aug 9: 34.0

Aug 10: 35.5+

Is that right? And potentially two or possibly three more 34C+ to come?

Just back from Frinton again which was refreshingly cool on the beach and the heat back home is like a furnace.

Yes believe so. Very impressive run of temps. Hopefully should squeeze a bit more tmrw. 37?

Looks right to me Rob. And Tuesday or Wednesday could potentially be the hottest yet. Very high starting temperature in the morning, and no cool surface layer. Main storm activity also appears to be further west.

Looking at GW's table (https://i.imgur.com/5tNYAJd.png) today ranks as equal 21st based on the 5pm Heathrow reading, and could yet make the top 20.

Marco Petagna says 35.1 was also reached at St James's Park.

5.20pm Heathrow METAR was 34 so looks like it has probably peaked.

AROME has minima of 22C across London and 23C along the Sussex coast tonight.

August has reasserted itself as the king of heatwave months. No off the scales one day scorchios that July & June like but rather a good solid run of days in the low to mid 90's

Kew isn't on the synop list, and the site I had been using (Weathercast/Meteogroup) hasn't been updating today. Likewise Wisley, Wiggoholt, Frittenden et al.

Incidentally our Virgin TV box has just shut itself down with a message that it's overheated. First time I've seen that!

Heathrow still 35.0C at 6pm, that is really quite impressive late heat. Not quite as impressive as 17 years ago today when it was still 35.8C at 5.50pm.

The 18Z synop from Heathrow seems to be missing the daily max figure. Northolt max was 35.3.

So maybe one last chance to beat 35c tomorrow before this memorable heatwave finally leaves our shores? Surely too much instability on Wed. with big clouds building and thunderstorms breaking out like a rash all over, so temps. will likely be a little lower. I'm happy to be proved wrong though.

32.7c was the max here today.

30+ here for five consecutive days.

Dewpoints were between 20-21c making it very uncomfortable.

26.0c here and cloudy.

I’m hoping that this spell goes bang in a big way, and not out with a whimper.

Having looked at GFS it appears that autumn arrives next week - I've almost forgotten what wet ground looks like.

Still waiting for the Heathrow daily max, the synop was missing the data and hasn't updated.

Colin Youngs gives a good daily roundup of the maxima on uk.sci.weather. I'm not sure where he gets the maxima for the stations that aren't on the Ogimet synop roundup so it's the only place they seem to be publicly available.

Pasting them in here for the data nerds:

Thursday 6 August:
Farnborough and Manston 28.0°C, Herstmonceux 28.2°C, Goudhurst (Kent) 28.7°C, East Malling 28.8°C, Frittenden (Kent) 29.1°C, Chertsey 29.3°C, London St James’s Park 29.5°C, Northolt and Heathrow 29.7°C, Kew Gardens 29.9°C, Wisley 30.1°C.

Friday 7 August:
Benson 34.5°C, Odiham 34.6°C, Reading University 35.0°C, Farnborough 35.2°C, Santon Downham 35.3°C, Teddington 35.8°C, Slough (Cippenham Water Works) 35.9°C, Wisley, Northolt and London St James’s Park 36.1°C, Chertsey 36.2°C, Heathrow and Kew Gardens 36.4°C.

Saturday 8 August:
Bournemouth (Hurn) 32.9°C, Wych Cross (East Sussex) and Langdon Bay 33.0°C, Thorney Island 33.1°C, London St James’s Park 33.2°C, Heathrow 33.4°C, Writtle (Essex) 33.5°C, Gosport 33.8°C, Goudhurst (Kent) 34.4°C, Wiggonholt (West Sussex), Herstmonceux and Frittenden (Kent) 34.5°C.

Sunday 9 August:
Teddington 32.7°C, Farnborough, Wisley and Farnham (Alice Holt Lodge) 32.8°C, Slough (Cippenham Water Works) 32.9°C, Thorney Island 33.1°C, Shoreham 33.2°C, Northolt and Kew Gardens 33.5°C, Gosport and Heathrow 33.8°C, Wiggonholt (West Sussex) 33.9°C, Herstmonceux 34.0°C.

Monday 10 August:
TBC

And may as well add this in:

Friday 31 July:
Brize Norton and Farnborough 35.4°C, Bedford 35.9°C, Wellesbourne (Warks) and Wisley 36.2°C, Benson and Chertsey 36.6°C, Teddington and London St James’s Park 36.7°C, Northolt 36.8°C, Kew Gardens 37.3°C, Heathrow 37.8°C.
