The Sun is shining here in Edinburgh just now, but there was quite a number of heavy showers as well as well as a few longer outbreaks of rain during yesterday, and also during the overnight period.

The result of this is that since 9am yesterday morning, a total of 5.6 mm of rain has fallen at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 7am this morning along with 3.6 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh with a lot of cloud still around.

This morning is still fairly windy, but nowhere near as windy as what it has been recently which made at least made last night much quieter and therefore, much better for trying to get to sleep.

Last night's overnight minimum temperature was 2.3°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank and 2.7°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 7am this morning was around 4°C here in Edinburgh.

The north of Edinburgh, usually always missing out on snow events which occur not just within the rest of Scotland or the UK, but also within the rest of Edinburgh.

A bright and fair start to the day, although high cloud is increasing.

The 9 c & 75% h felt quite chilly when I popped out to get the papers, despite lighter winds and the seemingly Spring-like look about things. The local sparrows are going off on one at the moment.

A band of very heavy and almost torrential rain is passing through here just now. As that line of rain approached, it got very dark as though we were about to get some thunder and there was also some squally winds for a while, which accompanied that.

Before then, today had brought a mixture of sunny spells and fairly frequent showers which themselves, have also been heavy. The result of this is that since 9am this morning, a total of 3.2 mm of rain has fallen at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 4pm this afternoon, along with 2.8 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh as this thoroughly wet and miserable month of February which we are continuing to experience here in Edinburgh goes on.

On a more positive note, a total of 2.6 hours of sunshine has been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 4pm this afternoon, although that is probably now likely to be the final total for today.

As these showers have come through, the temperatures have been jumping up and down like a yo-yo so that they drop quite sharply to around 2°C whenever a shower comes through, only to then recover quite quickly afterwards.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 4pm this afternoon was around 5°C here in Edinburgh.

Well, that pleasant break from wind and rain didn't last long.  The high cloud came over, then clouds bringing heavy showers during one of  which the winds got squally and the temperature dropped by 3 degC.
