Yet again, normal service has been resumed here in Edinburgh as the presence of too much wind and too much cloud resulted in the temperatures refusing to drop here during last night.

The result of this is that despite the pressure still being very high at 1042.5mb at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 8am this morning, we have once again returned to our usual frost-free horror show which we have had to endure throughout just about all of this complete virtual non-event that is known as our "winter".

On top of that, we have also entered into yet another winter borefest with yet more constant grey skies, and with nothing which is even remotely interesting in terms of our weather actually happening, and it is also mild with a temperature of around 7°C as at 8am this morning which means that the temperatures actually went up a bit here during the course of last night, instead of dropping.

For that reason, I see no point in posting anything in the CC threads just now until such time that this situation changes because just now, I couldn't even bear to look at those posts which are in there from English members who are gloating about how cold and frosty it is in their neck of the woods and then, dressing that up as though this was what it was like across the whole country because just like our mainstream English-biased so-called "UK" media, they can't see that the country does actually extend further than the south of England and the Watford Gap.

I did say that this so-called "frosty" period under high pressure would end up being mostly an England-only event and even though that rather unexpectedly didn't quite end up being the case at this time during yesterday morning, I then said that this would still end up being the case from last night onwards, and it would appear as though this is now exactly what has happened.

I'm sure that posters in England have a very valid point in highlighting the highest UK pressure readings in over 60 years. I find it rather interesting with little evidence of any bias.

That aside the highest readings were not even in England anyway!

And I am sure were it the coldest/frostiest period of the winter (indeed for nearly a year) in your neck of the woods you'd make no mention of it whatsoever

We had a mean temp of +0.1c here yesterday.  And it was sunny all afternoon.   Niiiiice

Max temp here today is 7.9C. Not exactly a frozen winter wonderland. But whatever...

This supposed dry spell aint half been wet

We've had fine drizzle falling at times every day this week. After the fantastically mid-winter Sunday (temp barely above freezing, fog lingering all day) and BBC forecast promising a dry several days IMBY, it's been a huge disappointment.

Have to say we've been very lucky here, been lovely and sunny all week (bar some fog this morning), with several overnight frosts.

Here in North Northumberland this high has brought an overdose of windy mildness, but at least accompanied by some welcome dry and sunny conditions, positively springlike for the odd hour here and there when the wind has dropped.
It really is so frustrating the way the weather forecasters have harped on about cold and frosty weather and now gloom as though it has been like that over the whole country - would it really do any harm to mention that things are very different in the north with record warmth for instance - it is all so London biased.

Another abhorrent week of unrelenting tedium. Even milder than last week. Not even a hint of anything remotely seasonable and yet more double digit temperatures during the overnight period.  It’s just beyond surreal when a non-winter as bad as this just keeps getting worse and worse. I am going to Madrid in April and was looking at their weather and they are having far more of a winter with 14 consecutive frosts earlier this month. It’s absolutely ludicrous

This second half of January has been so bad it almost makes the rest of the winter seem half decent. One solitary air frost is all that has been recorded since the 12th and the outlook is so grim that could be it for the rest of January. At this rate the second half of winter won’t get anywhere close to the abysmal tally of seven air frosts recorded for the first half and there continues to be no sign of even a flake of snow falling

Yet again you think things have reached rock bottom and the only way is up yet somehow a way is found for us to slide further and further into the abyss.

Mind-numbing times of unrelenting banality like nothing else in recorded history. That is what we are living in

That is exactly the point which I have been trying all along to make, in my most recent posts in this thread.

If they have I don't know why. It hasn't even been like that here. We had 2 or 3 (so memorable I've already forgotten) light frosts and daytime highs of around 8C before the cloud and murk arrived. You really haven't been missing out on some great wintry bonanza.

Yet another lovely day here. A High with a centre just south of here delivers nicely every time, sadly just for us it would seem.

As the high pressure sank south and we gradually brought in more of a westerly influence and it's associated murk, there was always going to be a high chance of periods of drizzle. I don't think this area was ever forecast to be completely dry these past few days. It has been predious tedious though, hasn't it? Can't wait for that cold front to come down and sweep it all away.

Yesterday for me had not a single redeeming feature weatherwise

The whole 24 hours was uniformly overcast with occasional light drizzle just enough to show up on surfaces

This is the hourly 24 temperature at Kew Weather Station where the temperature remained between 7.1 and 8.1 the whole time

It is so "nothing" I am looking forward to the return of the zonality this weekend we have been enduring since ths start of December

Following a toxic write off Sunday, yet another week of abject hell kicks off.

Failed to drop below freezing as forecast and it's not remotely cold at 3.2C currently. Just feels horrifically freezing and unpleasant due to that repellent wind which I despise with every bone in my body.

Hated last week's mild garbage but it was streets ahead of this poison.
