I had that problem on Sunday. Local PWSs were recording plenty, I could see plenty of rain falling and my rain gauge only tipped once, though did tip a couple of times later. I cleaned it all out and it was gunky; today's rain has registered nicely.

So I had to invent an aggregated total for Sunday based on surrounding PWSs (3.9mm). Monday had 3.0mm and my total for the month is now 12.3mm. Tuesday has the potential to increase that total significantly.

Since 5.00am we have had 22.5mm of rain, including 11.2mm in the last hour, and a maximum rain rate of 36mm/hour. That's more rain than I had recorded in the previous 38 days.

Another hefty shower with thunder passed just after 16:00 nudging the total up to 32mm today at Kew so far

Lots of "ponding" (as they say across the water) out and about on the roads round here with frequent water-splashes to be navigated

That shower passed through central and east London an hour or so ago with rain rates up to 150mm/hr on the radar in places. Reduced visibility here to about 200 metres!

In the end, a total of 16.0 mm of rain fell at Edinburgh Gogarbank during yesterday along with 14.0 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh which made yesterday the second wettest day of this autumn so far at both of those stations.

In addition to that though, a total of 1.8 mm of rain has fallen during today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 6am this morning along with 1.4 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

For Edinburgh Gogarbank, that takes the total for this month so far to 67.8 mm, the total for this autumn so far to 67.8 mm and the total for this year so far to 625.2 mm as at 6am this morning.

This means that more rain has now fallen during this month at Edinburgh Gogarbank than the 1981-2010 September average for that station which means that this month will now go down as being wetter than average there overall in terms of the actual rainfall amounts, regardless of what happens between now and the end of this month.

This also means that at least 2 more official rain days need to occur at Edinburgh Gogarbank between now and the end of this month, in order for this month to go down as being wetter than average overall in terms of the number of official rain days at that particular station.

For the botanic gardens in Edinburgh, that takes the total for this month so far to 67.8 mm, the total for this autumn so far to 67.8 mm and the total for this year so far to 604.8 mm as at 6am this morning.

This means that more rain has now fallen during this month at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh than the 1981-2010 September average for that station which means that this month will now go down as being wetter than average there overall in terms of the actual rainfall amounts, regardless of what happens between now and the end of this month.

This also means that at least 2 more official rain days need to occur at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh between now and the end of this month, in order for this month to go down as being wetter than average overall in terms of the number of official rain days at that particular station.

It is worth noting as well that even though we are still only just under three quarters of the way through 2019, there has already been more rain at both of those stations during this year than what there was during the whole of 2018. Furthermore, this has happened despite the fact that we had a very dry winter which resulted in both January and February being exceptionally dry.

However, we have only had one drier than average month here since then with that coming in April and now, our increasingly long wait for that increasingly elusive first drier than average month since then goes on.

A very, very soggy few days here in mid-Hampshire with almost 80mm recorded in the last 3 and a bit days (data from www.winchesterweather.org.uk). Takes September to 93.4mm and makes it the wettest month of the year so far. Quite a turnaround after a virtually dry first 3 weeks of the month!

41mm here after 21mm yesterday, still about 20mm below September normal - unlikely to catch up that much.
