Well, I went back and this time did High Cup Nick. 23km in all. Didn't take as long as the book said as I walk fast. Around 4hrs 15 of actual walking. High Cup Nick was stunning. The rest of the walk was desolation-perfection. For the outward stretch of 2 hours (7.5 miles) I did not cross a single person.

Out of interest, have you ever considered doing panoramic versions of these sorts of wide angle shots. IMO they can add quite a bit to the overall presence and ambience

It is quite easy to get freely available stitching software off the internet and the technique for long distance images is quite straightforward

When on a break I generally snap individual images and panoramas for my web site

I tried a few panorama shots with the function on the mobile, but what you've done there is much better.

Superb pictures, Nick...I don’t half wish this terrain was just down the road relatively speaking from where we live!

It took me about 50 mins to get to the starting point for the walk, having dropped my daughter off at school in Durham. It looks closer on the map, but there are a lot of bends and dips on the higher routes there.

Great pics, not just the classic High Cup Nick, but also bring out a feature which surprised me when I walked the route (40 or so years ago, but it hasn't changed) - the almost lazy way that the becks meander across the moor between its dramatic edges at the nick and Cauldron Snout
