Today is the penultimate day of the meteorological summer, and has started of with yet another dull, overcast, depressing and soul destroying borefest with yet more constant grey skies and with nothing which is even remotely interesting in terms of our weather actually happening.

There was a little bit of rain during the early hours of this morning, but this has resulted in a total of just 0.6 mm being recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 6am this morning along with 0.6 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

The lowest hourly temperature reading for last night at Edinburgh Gogarbank was 14.2°C (the actual minimum temperature at that station has still to be officially confirmed), so last night was warmer than of late once again.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 6am this morning was around 15°C here in Edinburgh.

We did eventually get a period of rain here in Edinburgh during the latter part of this afternoon and into this evening, although that has cleared up again for now. The result of this is that a total of 2.0 mm of rain has been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 8pm this evening along with 2.0 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh. This means that for the first time for quite a while, today will now go down as an official rain day at both of those stations as a result.

Before that rain set in, there was a lot of cloud throughout the day but some brighter spells as well. In the end though, the rather abysmal total of just 54 minutes of sunshine was recorded for the whole of today at Edinburgh Gogarbank. This means that unless at least 4.0 hours of sunshine is recorded there during tomorrow, this month will be going down as being duller than average overall at that particular station. Given the latest forecast for tomorrow as well, the omens are not looking good there.

However, today was another warm day with today's maximum temperature at Edinburgh Gogarbank being confirmed as exactly 20.0°C and today's highest hourly reading at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh was 20.8°C.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 8pm this evening was around 17°C, so this is developing into another fairly warm and humid night.
