For Edinburgh Gogarbank, that takes the total for this month so far to 117.0 mm, the total for this summer so far to 308.4 mm and the total for this year so far to 538.2 mm as at 8pm this evening.

This means that just at least another 2 more official rain days need to occur at Edinburgh Gogarbank between now and the end of this month in order for this month to go down as being wetter than average there overall in terms of the number of official rain days.

16mm of rain so far today brings our August total to 63mm.   Already surpassed our August average of 59mm.


Now at 265mm for Summer 2019 so far, meaning it is already the 5th wettest Summer in the last 37 years here.

Yesterday and overnight accumulated a grand total of 3.1mm, giving the monthly sum to date of 26.2mm.

In addition to that though, a total of just 0.2 mm of rain has fallen during today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 10am this morning along with nothing at all at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

For Edinburgh Gogarbank, that takes the total for this month so far to 119.6 mm, the total for this summer so far to 311.0 mm and the total for this year so far to 540.8 mm as at 10am this morning.

For the botanic gardens in Edinburgh, that takes the total for this month so far to 131.8 mm, the total for this summer so far to 304.4 mm and the total for this year so far to 518.4 mm as at 10am this morning.


Recent days haven't been all that wet here and there are even some hints in the latest model output that it could even become drier towards that latter part of next week as high pressure builds in.


Yet, we are only just over halfway through this month and even if you were to subtract 100 mm from this month's total so far at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh and assumed that this amount didn't actually fall, this month would still be more or less on course to end up being wetter than average overall at that particular station in terms of the actual rainfall amounts.


That in turns, shows just how wet and miserable, the first 11 days of this month in particular, actually were.

However, today has been completely dry so far at both of those stations as at 8am this morning.

For Edinburgh Gogarbank, that takes the total for this month so far to 123.2 mm, the total for this summer so far to 314.6 mm and the total for this year so far to 544.4 mm as at 8am this morning.

That means that this month will go down as being wetter than average at Edinburgh Gogarbank in terms of the number of official rain days if there are any more official rain days there between now and the end of this month.

For the botanic gardens in Edinburgh, that takes the total for this month so far to 134.6 mm, the total for this summer so far to 307.2 mm and the total for this year so far to 521.2 mm as at 8am this morning.

For Edinburgh Gogarbank, that takes the total for this month so far to 129.6 mm, the total for this summer so far to 321.0 mm and the total for this year so far to 550.8 mm as at 4pm this afternoon.

This means that there has now been more official rain days at Edinburgh Gogarbank during this month than the 1981-2010 August average for that particular station which means that this month will now go down as being wetter than average there overall in terms of the number of official rain days, regardless of what happens between now and the end of this month.

Now that we have just entered another new month, I can now confirm that the final total for August comes out as 136.2 mm at Edinburgh Gogarbank and 142.4 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

For Edinburgh Gogarbank, this is 200.9% of the 1981-2010 average for that station whilst the botanic gardens in Edinburgh had 236.5% of its 1981-2010 average rainfall during August.

Overall, this shows that August was not only substantially wetter than average at both of those stations in terms of the actual rainfall amounts, but was also the wettest August since 2008 at Edinburgh Gogarbank as well as the wettest August since 2011 at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

In addition to that, Edinburgh Gogarbank had 15 official rain days during August and this shows that it was wetter than average there overall in terms of the number of official rain days since that amounts to 133.9% of the 1981-2010 average.

In addition to that, the botanic gardens in Edinburgh also had 15 official rain days during August with that amounting to 154.6% of the 1981-2010 average, thus making August a substantially wetter than average month there overall in terms of the number of official rain days.

Since we have also just entered a new season, I can also confirm that the final total for this summer was 327.6 mm at Edinburgh Gogarbank and 315.0 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

For Edinburgh Gogarbank, this was 193.4% of the 1981-2010 average whilst the botanic gardens in Edinburgh had 186.5% of its 1981-2010 average rainfall during this summer.

This was therefore, a substantially wetter than average summer at both of those stations in terms of the actual rainfall amounts.

In addition to that, Edinburgh Gogarbank had 38 official rain days during this summer which was 119.5% of the 1981-2010 average whereas the botanic gardens in Edinburgh had 41 official rain days during this summer which was 142.4% of the 1981-2010 average.

This was therefore, also a substantially wetter than average summer in terms of the number of official rain days at both of those stations.

Finally, I can also confirm that during 2019 so far, Edinburgh Gogarbank has had a total of 557.4 mm of rain as at midnight going into 1 September 2019 which is 73.9% of the 1981-2010 average, whilst the botanic gardens in Edinburgh has had a total of 529.0 mm of rain during 2019 so far as at midnight going into 1 September 2019, which is 75.1% of the 1981-2010 average.

In addition to that, Edinburgh Gogarbank has had 86 official rain days so far during 2019 as at midnight going into 1 September 2019 which is 62.6% of the 1981-2010 average whereas the botanic gardens in Edinburgh has had 85 official rain days during 2019 so far at at midnight going into 1 September 2019 which is 68.4% of the 1981-2010 average.
