A thoroughly wet and miserable morning here in Edinburgh.

As at 7am this morning, a total of 1.8 mm of rain has fallen during today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank along with 5.6 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

That comes on top of the 6.2 mm of rain which fell at Edinburgh Gogarbank in the end, during yesterday along with 5.0 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

For most of the time during yesterday, it wasn't actually raining and in fact, that didn't mostly come until last night. However, that rain was very heavy at times when it arrived and in addition to that, the really abysmal total of just 18 minutes of sunshine was recorded for the whole of yesterday at Edinburgh Gogarbank.

That came with a maximum temperature of 18.3°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank which made yesterday our coolest day of this month so far.

Last night's overnight minimum temperature was 12.7°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, and the temperature at 7am here in Edinburgh was around 13°C.

No rain at all yesterday, in fact it was a very drying day, and the garden is back to being baked dry and in need of a good drenching of rain.

During a morning of sunny spells and bubbly-type cumulus, just had a passing shower which gave me 0.2 mm of rain - the first measurable rain so far this August.

The current 20.8 c & 77% h are feeling fresh in a brisk W breeze.

This morning's rain cleared away quite quickly and for a while, the weather actually became not too bad as the Sun came out. However, that only lasted until those thunderstorms moved in later on which I have gone more into on the convection thread. That has all cleared away now though, although there is still quite a lot of cloud around.

The end result of this is that a total of just 1.3 hours of sunshine has been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 7pm this evening with nothing at all in that department since 4pm this afternoon.

However, it is the rainfall which has created today's headlines here because thanks to those thunderstorms, a staggering 37.6 mm of rain has been recorded just for today alone, as at 7pm this evening along with 28.8 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

That makes today, the wettest day of this year so far at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh, but only the second wettest day of this year so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank. The fact that today wasn't the actual wettest day of the year so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank shows just how impactful, that first major thunderstorm event was which we had back in June because in most years, today's total at Edinburgh Gogarbank would normally have been enough to make this the wettest day of the year quite easily.

Even with all of that going on though, today was still fairly warm with a maximum temperature of 21.3°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, and the temperature at 8pm this evening was around 15°C here.
