the dewpoint charts are quite astonishing. Thursday evening, dewpoint 27C in northern France. In London? 4C!

Yes I mentioned this yesterday, it's a fascinating (and realistic!) setup and as always the weather will do anything it 'fancies'.

Day one of the heatwave proper. I have my eyes on Macon which is the closest station to my French holiday home. Expecting 33-34C today and 35-36 tomorrow.

Back up here in London it certainly feels hot on the way to work. At a guess 23C already. But the cloud is due over us later before things can really hot up.

Possible i might get a request to turn the heating on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Tuesday looks cool with rain and a high of 16c.
Wednesday ,Met Office text states might be low cloud along coast only, but more than likely it will stay here most of the day. High of 17c.
Lack of sun and the indoor temps will be low. Just under 19c in the house now.
Looks a bit better after that though!

No heatwave here so far as it's currently chucking it down with rain here in Edinburgh with that east coast haar and a temperature of just over 12°C as at 11am this morning.
The north of Edinburgh, usually always missing out on snow events which occur not just within the rest of Scotland or the UK, but also within the rest of Edinburgh.

The house I am staying is now just barely comfortable at 22.5C as I opened the doors and widows as outside is 23C.  I plan to get the heat in the house by the end of the week to see 30C inside when outside go to low 30's here.  Likely Epsom my old home area would see mid 30's there.  Once the heatwave goes then I close everything to keep the warmth inside with few window ajar opened only.

No heat wave temperatures up here in Manchester. With all this cloud and heavy showers about, it's struggling to push much above 20C.

If it's not going to thunder, then I want the warm sunshine. Sick to death of rain and showers now.

The hottest max temp map I’ve ever seen on a model output for Europe outside Iberia:

Widespread 43Cs and a 45C in the Southern Rhône (that would be Carpentras or similar).

All time French high is 44.1C in Lezignan Corbières in August 2003.

I would open my windows if it was 22.5 inside too. Far too unpleasant. Still cool, grey and wet here.

The shallow low bringing the thunderstorms tonight has quite literally saved us from having to take on similarly extreme weather (relative to normal; e.g. high 30s in southeastern UK), during the next couple of days.

So from a heat health perspective, perhaps we should look east tonight and shout 'thank you'. Well, unless you're property is being damaged by the thunderstorms... .

These projected temperatures from the GFS as early as Wednesday are, quite frankly, ridiculous. There is no way temperatures in central southern England will be 16c on Wednesday. Something is seriously awry.
If we only reach the mid teens here on Wednesday, I will, quite literally, eat my hat!!

Bad post to wish that we been saved, I am not sure why you don't want to see high temperatures to be broken here?   i would love to see very high temperatures once again here and right now on the longest days have better chance than in August time.  Extreme is part of our weather hobby otherwise boring if no extreme recorded here.

I think fog and low cloud will feature on Wednesday. I am expecting a high of about 16c. Met Office text forecast says early fog to burn away inland, but never happens that easily. It could easily be 7pm before it turns sunny here and it may stay cool. Could be the same for some other central/eastern areas.

Just what I said it would be. A dire week with below average temperatures. Max 12.9C and a pitiful diurnal range of 1.4C which would never have been seen even during the worst summer weather in the past.

Several days this month 4-5C or more below average but once again the days 5C warmer than average days appear to have gone AWOL. Just the story of summer these days along with the excess rain and leaden skies.

Nothing above average being forecast all week so the possibility of an unprecedented third summer month this decade failing to hit 20C remains
