West Lindsey district of Lincolnshire

No county (Lincolnshire) has better churches and worse houses. The poorer sort of people wash their clothes with hog's dung, and burn dried cow's dung for want of better fuel; whence comes the Lincolnshire proverb: "Where the hogs shite soap and the cows shite fire".

Overcast, light air, very slight rainfall.

12*C; 90%RH.

1010.8mb steady.

Rather featureless boring weather, and just a bit damp to get out in the garden.

Yet another dire bleak and depressing day. Only now I'm 1000 miles south in Lake Garda, Northern Italy. Hasn't made the slightest difference to the weather which was revolting all the way down to Edinburgh yesterday and the exact same crud upon landing at Verona yesterday evening.

Today is unbelievably cold, windy and grey with drizzly rain and no sign of the sun. Only 14C. Horrific holiday weather for a location where the average high is 23C at this time of year. It has been a staggeringly awful May for Italy. Can imagine it's the coldest and dullest on record. Maxima running 5C below average in this area and sun will be nowhere near the 8 hour daily average.

2007 onwards: The Worst Summers since the 1690s?

2007: Dullest June on record, dullest summer since 1944; 170% of average rainfall

2008: Dullest August since 1963; 139% of average rainfall for the season

2009: 121% of average rainfall for the season

2010: Another notably dull spell of June weather; 103% of average rainfall, 87% of average sun for the season

2011: Very cool, dull and wet with a record breaking run of sub-21C days. 169% of average rainfall for the season.

2012: The worst summer since at least 1879. Dullest since 1912 with only 62% of average sun and 171% of average rainfall. Only 0.1C warmer than 1965, the coldest post-war summer

2013: The only decent summer.

2014: Another top 10 dull June and the wettest August since 1963.

2015: The wettest July since 1970. 148% of average rainfall for the season.

2016: 5th wettest June since 1856. 154% of average rainfall for the season and 87% of average sun.

2017: Wettest June on record.

2018: The weekend curse strikes again.

While it is quite cloudy, the light level is quite strong (like being inside a photography soft light box) and thus the current 18 c & 60% h are feeling quite balmy under dead calm air. It does feel stuffy indoors even with windows open and no need for any heating, probably will get to be more so this afternoon when I do the roast.

Continuous hazy sunshine, with blobs of diffuse cumulus in almost every quarter. 19.2C and humid: sweating profusely whilst digging a new veg bed.

You know, I'm sure that no-one else other than Richard from Aberdeen could travel abroad somewhere and still find that he was never happy with the weather which he was experiencing, regardless of where he travelled to.

Anyway, it's not been as bad here today as it was yesterday and it has been been dry so far, although there has still been a lot of cloud around with the rather abysmal total of just 6 minutes of sunshine being recorded for the whole of today (and indeed, this entire weekend) so far as at 1pm this afternoon.

However, it is a bit warmer today with the temperature up to around 15°C as at 1pm this afternoon.
