All the sunshine over the last couple of weeks has certainly been helping the local sea temps warm. 

I've just checked Chichester harbour and it was 13.4C and Bramble Bank out in the Solent was 12.6C.

Always a great sign when the local inwaters start getting into the teens as this means the warm summer night's are not far off.

Temperatures seem a little higher than the long term mean in the Channel and a bit cooler in other areas around the British Isles (based on this at least: https://www.ospo.noaa.gov/data/sst/anomaly/2019/anomnight.5.9.2019.gif 

I think SST values here are around 10°C based on this:

Its no surprise the SST's are doing well so early down south. We didn't get a winter..so to speak :)

The local inwaters, and harbours down here in the Solent can get as warm as the low 20's in good years, but even then it might only be mid teens out in the open channel. l would have thought perhaps spots around the Bristol estuary might have been similar?

Up to 15.2C in Chichester harbour today - warmer thsn the air temp over the water.

Less of a rise at bramble bank out in the Solent at only 13.6C. 

I would expect a slight dip over the coming week as cloudier weather is expected - especially for Chichester harbour.

When speaking of open water in the channel talking about water that is several miles from land at least 🙂 Not shallow harbours, river entrances, and sheltered coastal bays. 

21C happens almost yearly at Chichester harbour and most years bramble bank hits at least 20C at some point 😊😊

Tide times can affect maximum SSTs in the inundations across the Solent area, depending on times of reading. in mid summer, with a high sun, low tide a short while before reading time can result in warmed surfaces, especially over saltmarsh, glasswort etc.

And this thread is also for inwaters to not just open waters. Surfers, swimmers, etc  Bramble Bank though as far as I know is actually out in the Solent :)
