Coldest start to May since 1996 here, with a dreadful mean max of 9.4C so far Feels even colder as I don't recall 1996 being so dismally dull and windy as well.

Colder than Christmas with the last week of December 2018 having recorded an average high of 10.4C and significantly colder than 12th to 27th February which averaged 12.2C. We haven't even had one day that warm so far this month.

All concept of seasonality appears lost. At least with horrible cold Mays of the 60s, in particular 1962, 1965, 1968 and 1969 there had been proper winters beforehand and not just the same temperatures constantly for over half the year

We were aware that the HadCET data-sets had been failing to update since  27 April. I wish to point out that these services are not operational and are maintained on a best-endeavors basis.

On this occasion, rather ironically, a hardware update led to unexpected problems.

Latest output suggest the CET will still be below the 1981-2010 mean by the 25th. If the warmer weather does stick around until the end of the month a final CET of 12C is still quite possible. But equally if we don't see much warmth then something close to 11C is more likely.

Well I went for 12.27C so it obviously needs to warm up soon and indeed warm up consistently. A general warm up next week is pretty much nailed on but as you allude to, the warmth really needs to continue to the end of the month to get into the 12s.

The warmer weather not only needs to stick around, but get even warmer to get near my 12.5c guess!
