We have another named storm on the way with orange weather warnings in place for the South-Western quadrant of Ireland https://www.met.ie/warnings and yellow warnings for Wales and South-West England https://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/warnings-and-advice/uk-warnings#?date=2019-04-26

Hopefully, not too much damage from this one but could be nasty enough with gusts possibly in excess of 80mph.

Now a Red warning in place for Co. Clare on the West coast. Could be a bit of damage from this storm, unfortunately.

https://www.met.ie/warnings

Possible gusts in excess of 90mph.

In addition, the UK warning, while still only a yellow warning, is now covering a considerably wider area.

Pressure is dropping like a bomb here at the moment. Amazing how it has gone from summer to deepest November in just a couple of days.

Its been a boring winter for storms, wintry weather, etc, etc, so it’s quite remarkable that we have to wait until the last week in April for some much needed weather to talk about.šŸ˜

Rain band now moved through. Winds gusting to 55mph at the moment so still just a strong breeze down here....šŸ˜
Problem is Iā€™m driving up to the New Forest area tomorrow at 5am for a wedding!!

An element of damp squib with me. It's windy but nothing too drastic. 10,000 houses without power in South West Ireland. Hopefully, that's the extent of it.

Am I getting this wrong, or is this an odd time of year (April-nearly-May) for a storm of this recognition? The seas are pretty cold even in the subtropics; the opposite time of year (October-nearly-November) would seem more suitable.

True, it's not the normal time of year for it, but given our location, there is no month when a storm of this kind is not possible.

Pretty breezy here but nothing out of the ordinary. Actually recorded far higher wind speeds during the recent fine spell! I suppose though, when coupled with the rain, it just seems to be that bit nastier.

Drove home last night from Kent just after midnight - only felt a gust of wind once. Looking around this morning, twigs, leaves, quite a lot of blossom blown around but no indication of significant damage.

AA Travel reports 2 roads blocked by trees in S Wales, Severn and Milford Haven bridges closed to high-sided vehicles. 82 mph gust at Aberdaron, nothing elsewhere above 55 mph except in S Wales.

Worth strong words in the forecast but a yellow warning should have been only for a more limited area? and certainly not worth naming as far as the UK goes (Eire reports may be different)

Here in Edinburgh, we were supposed to see the tail end of that system which meant that we were supposed to get some rain from the northern edge of that system, albeit without any of the wind which was forecast to buffet parts of the Irish Republic and the southern half of the UK.

Yet, we don't even have any of that. We do have some cloud around just now but for the most part, the Sun has actually been shining for quite a lot of the time here.

The north of Edinburgh, usually always missing out on snow events which occur not just within the rest of Scotland or the UK, but also within the rest of Edinburgh.

Looks like the Irish Met office overcooked the wind gust estimates. They pushed out a red warning for gusts of 130-150kph for a short time yesterday evening. The strongest gust officially reported was 122kph (76mph) at both Shannon AP and Mace Head which is lower than the gust recorded at Aberdaron in Wales this morning.

As for the winds across central southern England they are only just peaking now. So you would not have experienced any significant wind at midnight last night.

Strongest gust on the south coast reported so far is 106kph at Needles Old Battery.

But a point I was making was that the yellow warning for central S England was in force from Late Friday.

From actual observation in inland Chichester, top gusts couldn't have been more than 40-50kph; the Needles Old Battery is on the top of the cliffs on the western tip of the IoW, and you can't get much more exposed than that!

There is plenty of rain around in many parts of Scotland currently. Nothing too heavy just damp and unpleasant. I suspect that while few places north of border will get copious amounts of rain not many places will be dry.

Not the windy weather elsewhere just damp muck.

Re, wind gusts, and as people were using kph for some reason, here at the gusts so far today (in kph not mph)

Note it does not have every WS (such as Needles)

Better to be a bit early than late with a warning, I say. Aside from that, apart from a few agitated plants and a blown-over chair, the shelter even 20 or so miles inland means we had very little energy here. As GW says, it was gustiest late morning with the odd small twig off a tree, nothing more; compare that with the Needles gust- quite a contrast.

Yet Edinburgh appears to be one of those few places which IS dry and in fact, it is actually fairly sunny here just now with a total of 1.3 hours of sunshine having been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 11am this morning.

There are some cumulus clouds building up which could develop into shower clouds by this afternoon, but those are all in the distance and from that, I would say that we will be very unlucky indeed if we go on to actually get any showers from that.

This is a far cry from the days when these low pressure systems used to bring us completely sunless days in this part of the world with copious amounts of rain which would persist throughout the day, which are the sorts of days which we just don't ever seem to get here any more as is being shown today.

That's more than my 0.6 mm of rain.

It has been a bit gusty this morning but certainly nothing out of the ordinary.

... which in turn, is far more than that all too familiar reading of 0.0 mm of rain for today which we have in this part of the world with that now looking likely to be the way that today is going to end up as the sunshine amounts have continued to increase here as the afternoon has gone on despite some forecasts that some showery rain could cross over to here from the west during the course of this afternoon (I certainly see no signs of that happening and we are very late into the afternoon as I write).
