How come my grass seems to be growing so much.

I have lived at this house for 3 years now, (since yesterday) when we moved in the grass was about a foot high. I cut it once, then the children started playing out on it and it never seemed to recover from the shock. I have never cut it since, until about 4 weeks ago (at which point it was about a foot high again), it needs cutting again now  as it is quite long in places.

Why is this happening, is it the amount of rain at this point in the year.

I suspect it's mounting a coup. I'm a keen gardener, and have found it nigh on impossible to get out there and do the seasonal jobs since the end of May, mainly due to the somewhat inconvenient, (for a Mon-Fri, 9-5er),  numerous downpours over weekends since then. The rare drier weekends have been punctuated with uncomfortably blustery winds too.

I guess your children haven't been able to play that grass into obedience Smile

Plus the first quarter and most of the second was extremely dry, and the parched grass hereabouts stayed short and yellowed. It's most definitely neither now. The rains arrived just in time for grass season I'm afraid

But on a brighter note my raspberry, blackberry and rhubarb have really taken off with the sudden rainfall.

My runner beans are really struggling.  Weeded them yesterday, snails aplenty.  Just about climbing the poles.

mangrove. I think we will be hearing more and more reports on the news or how the fields and gardens are fairing up. our grass needs cutting and I am frustrated by 1. wifes hayfever 2. soggy wet grass. It will have to grow .

Anyway apart from that the garden is growing we..... too well..
