December 1976

December 1976 was a cold month with a CET of 2.0. Despite the coldness, it was not especially snowy as compared to the Decembers of 1981 and 1995. The weather was unsettled during the first third of the month before high pressure from the Azores pushed NEwards across the UK. It was mostly dry for about week before fronts tried to push northwards bringing rain sleet/snow. A renewed outbreak of cold air came on Christmas Eve and it was a fairly cold Christmas Day with a few wintry showers in the east. There were some snowfalls in the run-up to the New Year before it became milder again on the 29th
