Snowploughs to become a thing of the past?

Unmanned drones could soon be playing a key role in preventing severe weather across parts of the UK. Plans are afoot to fly thousands of metcopters as they’ve been named to act as a shield above UK locations when severe weather is expected. Phase 1 of the programme could see metcopters providing a direct shield against extreme heat and cold, heavy snow, and heavy rain. Research is also been conducted to see whether they have an influence on air flow and wind speeds.

To protect against extreme temperatures the metcopters would be fitted with telescopic parasols opening up once airborne, acting like cloud cover to prevent it becoming too cold or hot. To go into action against rain and snow they would be fitted with mini buckets to act as collectors. The fully automated drones would then empty the rain or snow collected into rivers or reservoirs.

The metcopters promise a revolution in the weather and the hope that severe weather could become a thing of the past. Experts say a steady state climate could be achieved with the next generation never experiencing heavy rain, snow, extreme heat or extreme cold. It’s an exciting prospect and best of all would mean weather forecasts would always be right!
