Autumn 2005 forecast

Autumn 2005 - not a warm one
When we issue a seasonal forecast for the UK, one of the first phrases often used is something like 'well above average temperatures'.  In recent years season after season has produced temperatures above the long term averages. Those of you who like some variety may be pleased to read our autumn forecast which bucks the trend and points towards a season with temperatures overall being very close to the 1961-90 UK averages. The forecast for the UK covers September, October and November and can be read here.
The average nature of the forecast season will mask large variations in weather patterns, and although some of the patterns of recent years are expected to persist, we do think there is an increased risk of foggy and quiet weather during October, along with the possibility of some early incursions of much colder air towards the end of the autumn. September may also hold some surprises and offer something a little different to the warm and sunny weather which has often been the case during recent years.
