|I took delivery of my new Oregon Scientific AWS888 a little under two weeks ago now and I have been nothing short of impressed.|
The AWS may not be the most expensive or detailed Oregon on the market but there are more than enough features on it for the amateur weather enthusiast who wishes to log his current and indeed future weather condition and this is all beautifully displayed on the large and easy to understand colour LCD Screen.
The AWS' features include:
Outdoor Current Temperature via a remote sensor (supplied)
Outdoor Current Humidity via the same sensor
Indoor Current Temperature
Indoor Current Humidity
Current Barometric Pressure Reading
Current time and date
Built in Alarm Clock
Outdoor Remote Sensor
The Outdoor Remote Sensor relays information on the current temperature and humidity to the weather station from a distance of up to an impressive 30 Metres. I have mine positioned in the garden where the signal has to pass through the brick wall of the house to receive at a distance of about 20 Metres but it receives perfectly which I was impressed with as the manual states that any objects hindering reception should be kept to an absolute minimum or ideally none at all
Last but certainly not least is the full colour Weather Forecast Facility. When you activate this facility the full colour screen displays a scene which dictates what the weather holds in store for up to the next 12 hours. There are four scenes on the weather station. One dictates sunny and clear conditions, one dictates rainy conditions, one dictates cloudy conditions and one dictates snowy conditions. Whilst naturally this is a fairly general forecast I have found it to be very accurate at forecasting the coming weather trend, more so than I thought it would be as I assumed this would just be a gimmick.
The AWS888 also has sound on it. There is a different sound for each weather forecast ranging from twittering birds depicting clear/sunny settled conditions through to the sound of lashing rainfall naturally depicting rainy conditions. There are also key tones for every function on the weather station as well. The sound can be turned off which is just as well sometimes as the twittering birds can be a little on the irritating side at times.
The function I have found myself using most on the AWS since I’ve had it is the Automatic Scrolling Function. This function enables to weather station to scroll through each feature on the station, pausing on each function for about 5 seconds before moving onto the next one and will do so continuously until switched onto a different feature.
To summarise, I have been very impressed with this new colour weather station and for a very reasonable price of around £144.95 or so from UK Weather Shop, it offers excellent, clear and concise weather readings and I certainly have no apprehensions about recommending this product or its speedy, efficient and professional delivery from UK Weather Shop to anyone.
Enjoy. I am
