When did the drought if 1976 finish?

The summer of 1976 is generally considered to be the finest ever recorded in the UK. The months of May, June, July and August were all warm and generally dry. Between 23rd June and 7th July the temperature reached 32c (90f) or higher every day, a UK weather record that still stands. During the last week of August thunderstorms developed, heralding a change in the weather. The autumn that followed was very unsettled with above average rainfall.
