Summer 2011 weather forecast

Although some very warm spells of weather are likely with temperatures probably peaking at close to 33C (91F) in the south, TheWeatherOutlook forecast is for a mixed summer and one which will not be remembered as a classic. After a dry start increasing rainfall is likely, especially during the second half of the season. Over the season as a whole rainfall in southern and western regions is forecast to be close to or slightly above average, although in the north and Scotland rainfall amounts may be below average. A similar pattern is expected for Ireland, with a dry start followed by less settled weather with showers or longer spells of rain.

Brian Gaze of TheWeatherOutlook said, “I know there has been a lot of speculation that this summer will be a classic. There's always a lot of uncertainty when making long range forecasts in the UK, and that speculation may turn out to be correct, but it's not what I'm expecting. Although the early part of the summer should bring a good deal of dry and at times warm weather, I expect to see increasing amounts of rain as we head through July. August may well be mediocre too, although perhaps improving later in the month allowing summer to finish on a warm and dry note. Overall possibly a reasonable summer, but no classic is my call. "
