Wintry weather expected A spell of wintry weather looks set to develop next week, bringing an increasing risk of frost and snow later on to much of Britain. The cold spell is likely to last for a week or even longer. Brian Gaze of TheWeatherOutlook said, “High pressure is expected to build over Greenland, and this will push the usual mild and wet weather systems off the Atlantic further south towards Spain, leaving Britain under a cold air stream originating from the arctic. The pattern looks quite similar to the one which brought the wintry weather last December. It’s not possible to be specific about snowfall at this range, but the highest chance looks like being in the north and east. However, other areas including London may be at risk, although higher ground in the south-east such as the Chilterns will be a better bet for snow as usual. Overnight frosts are likely to be widespread, and lows of -10C are possible where snow lies. It looks like a sharp spell of wintry weather given that we are still in November. This type of weather pattern does have a tendency to repeat itself, and can be difficult to breakdown, so we need to keep an eye out for an increased chance of a White Christmas this year.” Contact us here for more information.Issued 17/11/2010
