If you’re like me then you’ll love this weather station. It has everything the amateur could want in one setup and a little more.

The Oregon WMR100 comes complete with sensors which monitor the temperature, humidity, barometric pressure, wind, and rainfall Oregon Scientific WMR100and all necessary batteries are provided so all you need to do is take all the bits out of the box and follow the straightforward assembly instructions. Even the time sets itself automatically thanks to the synchronicity with the local atomic clock, which in my case is approximately 500 miles away (in Rugby) but works perfectly.

The receiver interface is simple and the display is attractive and clear which means you can see at a glance the current conditions or with the press of a button see the 24 minimum or maximum temperature, humidity and wind gust. The unit also has USB connectivity for your PC  and supports up to 10 temperature external temperature sensors as well as an optional UV sensor. In addition to displaying the usual things you’d expect from a WS in this price range you can also see the dew point temperature and wind chill or heat index where appropriate

The temperature sensor is integrated into the main console and comes complete with its own sun screen which should eliminate artificially high readings due to direct exposure to the sunshine. The console itself can be pole mounted or attached to a vertical surface and all fittings are provided for whichever method you choose.

At the time of writing this review I have had the WS up and running in my garden for several weeks and have been very impressed by both its accuracy (when compared to the official station a few miles away) and its ease of use. As with all stations suitable placement is necessary to ensure accurate readings from the rain gauge. The rotary dial means it’s very quick and easy to scan between min and max data and all variables, temperature, wind chill, heat index, humidity, dew point temperature, wind speed & direction, barometric pressure and rainfall readings are all recorded as standard. Although living in N Scotland I will have to take Oregon’s word for it that it records a heat index value! Signal reception is excellent for the data and has not provided a single problem since I assembled the station.

To date I have yet to fully test the software recording PC connectivity fully but the connection is very straightforward through a USB port.

I would recommend this station to anyone who wants that little bit more than your basic weather station. It is quick to assemble, easy to read the data and accurate yet at the same time it looks good and would not appear out of place in most gardens. Overall it’s an excellent value for money weather station that provides lots of data and also the option for additional sensors for temperature, humidity and UV measurement. Highly recommended.
