Product overview

The Oregon Scientific Modena is a fully functional wireless barometric weather station providing a range of weather data as well as alarm and clock. The product is officially licensed by Ferrari and takes its name from Modena, home of Enzo Ferrari the founder of the legendary car manufacturer. The weather station is finished in stylish looking Ferrari red and chrome (also available in silver and carbon fibre) with wheels surrounding the LCD display panels!

Setting up

For anyone short on time the Modena will be a blessing as it is extremely easy to set-up and requires no specialist knowledge at all, although Oregon Scientific do provide a telephone support line should you experience any problems. Within 10 minutes of taking the Oregon Scientific Modena weather station out of its box, I had a fully functional weather station up and running.

This instrument can accept readings from 3 splash-proof, wireless remote sensors (1 supplied), which can be placed up to 30 metres distance “at sight”. Additional remote probes can be bought separately with the base unit supporting up to three. If you are planning on using more than one remote probe the only thing to remember when setting them up is they must each be set to broadcast on different channels. A switch on the probe itself sets the channel each probe broadcasts data on.

Functionality

The Modena provides a range of functions and features, as well as Ferrari styling. The key features are:

Indoor / outdoor temperature Indoor / outdoor humidity

Max / Min temps

Comfort level

Barometric air pressure

Summary

Initial impressions of the Modena are that it is an excellent product that is easy to set-up and requires virtually no maintenance at all. Anyone looking for something more sophisticated may want to consider other weather stations such as the Oregon Scientific Linear range, or the La Crosse WS-2500. But for many people the Modena will satisfy their interest in the weather as well as providing a stylish looking alarm clock!
