The outlook remains changeable but the downpours of recent days have departed for now. Next week drier interludes are expected but Atlantic weather systems bring the likelihood of rain at times.
Thursday starts bright across most of the UK with just a few showers in the south eastern corner. This morning sunny spells develop and it will feel warmer in the south than recently. Through the afternoon cloud builds in the north west but elsewhere it remains dry and bright.
Temperatures across much of the country will be close to 20C (68F) this afternoon and in eastern Scotland 23C (73F) could be reached. See the rainfall radar for the latest view.
Tonight cloud pushes southeastwards. By the end of the night outbreaks of rain affect much of Scotland, Northern Ireland and western Britain.
Tomorrow patchy outbreaks of rain spread eastwards and in the west they could be heavy at times. It will be very windy with gales in the north and west.
The weekend looks promising. On Saturday rain clears southeastwards in the morning to leave sunny spells and just a few showers in the north. It's a similar scene on Sunday although during the second half of the day wet weather may return to Northern Ireland.
