Washout conditions are expected in much of the southern half of the UK today and tomorrow. The longer term outlook is changeable but high pressure should bring some drier periods.
Tuesday is off to a miserable start across the southern half of the UK but in the north it is brighter. Through the day heavy and persistent outbreaks of rain affect much of England and Wales. At times the rain could become thundery, and there is the potential for surface flooding. Scotland and Northern Ireland have sunshine and showers.
In the wet areas it will be very cool for August with temperatures peaking at around 14C (57F). Where the sun puts in appearance 19C (66F) is possible. If you are braving the weather see the rainfall radar for the latest view.
Tonight heavy rain continues in southern and central regions. The north has a mostly dry and clear night.
Tomorrow the wet weather edges southeastwards and drier conditions follow on behind it. By evening the rain will probably be confined to the south eastern corner. The north should be mostly dry and bright throughout the day.
Thursday starts dry in much of the UK but heavy showers may still be affecting the south east. During the second half of the day outbreaks of rain return to the north west and on Friday they spread southeastwards.
