Mediocre weekend weather

[Updated 07:00 15/07/2017]

Fair weather

The weekend weather look mixed. By Monday and Tuesday a plume of hot air from southern Europe will be sending temperatures soaring but a thundery breakdown develops mid-week. In the longer term high pressure may bring more fine weather.

This morning it's a mixed picture. Many places are dry but there is some patchy rain around. Through the course of the day showery rain spreads eastwards across England and Wales, but there will be a few blobs of blue in the sky too. Northern Ireland and Scotland remain damp and this afternoon persistent rain pushes in from the west.

Temperatures range from 17C (63F) to 22C (72F) north to south. See the rainfall radar for the latest.

Tonight showers move southeastwards into northern England and Wales. The south and north stay mostly dry.

Tomorrow the north has a dry and bright day. In the south light rain fades away and the cloud begins to break. It will be warm in southern and central areas.

On Monday and Tuesday it is likely to become hot in the south and the warmth will spread northwards. Through the middle of the week a thundery breakdown takes place as low pressure edges up from the south.

It is high summer but our first autumn weather prospects discussion has been issued. Buzz investigates the mid term outlook.
