The weather will be changeable in the next few days. This weekend it becomes very warm or hot in the south and another surge of heat next week is probably followed by a thundery breakdown.
Thursday begins dry across most the UK with variable amounts of cloud. Sunny spells develop this morning and continue through the rest of the day. Showers will break out and in the afternoon they could be quite heavy in central and northern England, but many places miss them completely. In Scotland and Northern Ireland cloud builds and outbreaks of rain push push in from the west.
Temperatures range from about 17C (63F) to 21C (70F) north to south. See the rainfall radar for the latest.
Tonight showery bursts of rain push southeastwards into central and western areas. The south stays mostly dry and clearer skies return to the north west.
Tomorrow the remnants of the overnight showers clear away to leave dry and bright conditions. It will be quite warm in the south. During the afternoon another area of wet weather pushes into the north west.
On Saturday patchy rain spreads southeastwards across central and northern areas. The south is expected to remain dry and some warm sunny spells develop. By Sunday hot and humid weather is likely in the south and temperatures could reach 30C (86F). A band of cloud brings patchy rain to central areas but the north will be brighter and cooler.
