Risk of thunderstorms

[Updated 06:45 10/07/2017]

Lightning strike

All regions have spells of wet weather in the next few days and it will become quite cool. By the weekend high pressure should be bringing warmer and drier conditions back into southern and central areas.

The weather picture is looking quite messy today with a number of disturbances over the UK. This morning it's a wet start in Wales and much of northern England. Through the course of the day the rain pushes northeastwards into Scotland and it probably remains damp in Wales. In the north west of the UK bright spells develop. There'll also be sunny spells in England, but showers break out and in the east thundery downpours are possible.

Temperatures range from 12C (54F) in the far north west to 25C (77F) in the south east. See the rainfall and lightning radar for the latest.

Tonight patchy outbreaks of rain continue in Scotland. Elsewhere showers fade away but during the second half of the night wet weather spreads into western and central parts of the UK.

Tomorrow bands of rain push eastwards to affect much of England and Wales. The rain becomes heavy and persistent at times. Scotland and Northern Ireland should remain drier and brighter. It will be much cooler in the south than recently.

Drier and brighter weather returns on Wednesday but it remains changeable on Thursday and Friday. Buzz looks at the medium term prospects.
