Mixed weather is expected in the coming days but the south should often be fine and very warm. Next week unsettled conditions may push southwards.
Thursday begins wet in parts of the north, and locally in northern England the rain is heavy and thundery. In the south east there are a few showers but elsewhere it is dry. The rest of the day looks mixed. Sunny spells develop but thundery downpours are expected with the greatest risk this afternoon probably in northern and eastern England. In Scotland the of rain becomes lighter and patchier.
Temperatures range from 17C (63F) in the far north west to a hot 30C (86F) in brighter parts of the south. See the rainfall and lightning radar for the latest.
Tonight thunderstorms gradually fade away and it becomes dry. It will be quite warm and humid in the south.
Tomorrow some rain is likely in parts of central and northern Britain. The south remains mostly fine and very warm. In the north west of the UK brighter and cooler conditions return.
Saturday should be fine with sunny spells in much of the UK, but wet weather returns to the far north west. It will be cooler than recently but still warm in the south. Sunday brings more fine weather but showers could spread up across England and Wales. Scotland has a cool day with the risk of patchy rain.
