Southern areas will be hot and thundery in the next few days but cooler conditions in the north spread southeastwards this weekend. Next week looks mixed.
Wednesday starts dry in most of the UK but in northern England there is patchy rain. This morning southern and central regions have sunny spells but it will be cloudier in the north. In the afternoon brighter periods develop in the north but a few showers are likely. The south stays fine with sunny periods.
Temperatures range from 16C (61F) in cloudier northern areas to a very warm 27C (81F) in the south. See the rainfall radar for the latest.
Tonight wet weather pushes into the north west of the UK. Southern and central counties should be mostly dry but late on thundery showers break out in the south west.
Tomorrow scattered thunderstorms affect southern and central regions. Torrential downpours are possible locally with the greatest risk expected in central and eastern England. In the north showery rain spreads eastwards. It will be hot in the south and temperatures may approach 30C (86F) in sunny spells.
During Friday rain affects the north west but elsewhere a fine day is expected, and it remains very warm in the south. Through the weekend cooler conditions push southeastwards. There is a risk of wet weather but the forecast details are uncertain. Buzz checks the thundery Thursday storm risk.
