Heat and storms likely

[Updated 14:25 03/07/2017]

Lightning strikes

Changeable weather is on the way this week. In the south it is expected to become hot but thunderstorms are likely.

The new working week begins with a scattering of showers. This morning sunny periods develop in Scotland. Elsewhere there will be bright intervals but also a good deal of cloud. A few showers affect England and Wales, but they fade away in the afternoon and sunny spells become more widespread. Wimbledon could catch a few drops of rain but the weather shouldn't be a major player.

Temperatures range from 14C (57F) in western Scotland to 22C (72F) in the south east, and it will be quite breezy. See the rainfall radar for the latest.

Tonight starts off dry but late on wet weather pushes into Northern Ireland.

Tomorrow heavy rain spreads eastwards across central and northern areas. Southern counties have a dry and muggy day. Scotland has sunny spells and it will be cooler.

On Wednesday a few showers are likely in the north west. Elsewhere a fine day is expected and in the south it becomes very warm with temperatures close to 27C (81F).

Thursday looks hot in the south but there is a risk of downpours and thunderstorms. Showery rain is also possible in the north west. During Friday and the weekend cooler conditions probably return from the northwest.

Buzz looks at the risk of widespread thunderstorms later this week. If you've got a few seconds spare please complete our one question survey on TWO branding.
