Summer goes on leave

[Updated 6:30 27/06/2017]

The next few days bring heavy rain to all regions as an area of low pressure deepens over the UK. A more mixed weather picture is expected this weekend and next week.

Tuesday is off to a very wet start in much of the north and west, but northern Scotland and southern England are drier. This morning the rain could bring some travel disruption to northern areas but during the afternoon it gradually eases off from the west. In southern and central regions outbreaks of rain become more widespread as we head through the day.

Temperatures range from a very chilly 11C (52F) in Scotland to 21C (70F) in southern coastal counties. See the rainfall radar for the latest.

Tonight heavy bursts of rain spreads across southern and central regions. They may lead to localised flooding and difficult driving conditions. Scotland becomes mostly dry.

Tomorrow the heavy rain slowly spreads into Wales and northern England as drier conditions return to southern counties. Scotland should be mostly dry.

Thursday is expected to bring dry and bright spells to the south. Northern and western areas have further spells of rain which could still be heavy. Buzz takes a look at the mid term weather prospects.
