Yesterday was the hottest June day since 1976 with 34.5C reached at Heathrow, London. The coming days will be cooler and changeable.

Thursday starts mostly dry start but it is cloudier and breezier in much of the UK. This morning some heavy thundery showers break out across England and Wales, and through the afternoon they push eastwards. There will be sunny spells too and many places could escape with a decent day. Showers affect Scotland and Northern Ireland but some brighter spells develop.

It will be cooler than recently with temperatures in central and northern areas around 18C (64F) to 20C (68F). The south will still be be warm, and in the south east 27C (81F) could be reached. See the rainfall radar and UK weather report map for the latest.

Tonight outbreaks of rain spread eastwards across central and northern areas. The south remains dry.

Tomorrow cloud and patchy outbreaks of rain push southeastwards. Ahead of them in the south warm sunny spells develop and clearer skies return to the north too.

The weekend looks mixed. Showers are likely in all regions on Saturday but on Sunday they become confined to the north. Temperatures will generally be close to the seasonal average but it remains quite warm in the south east. Buzz takes a look at the latest outlook.
