New June record possible?

[Updated 7:00 20/06/2017]

Sunny weather

Hot weather continues in the next couple of days. By Thursday a transition to changeable and cooler conditions will be underway.

Tuesday is off to a dry start but a weak weather front is bringing cloudier skies to central areas. To the south temperatures haven't fallen much below 20C (68F) overnight, but northern regions are cooler and fresher. Through the day sunny spells develop but in central England a few heavy showers may break out.

The main feature today will be the temperatures. 30C (86F) is likely in much of the south and locally in the south west it could be even warmer. The north will be cooler. See the rainfall radar and UK weather report map for the latest.

Tonight thundery outbreaks of rain spread across the north and west. The south and east stay dry and muggy.

Tomorrow thundery showers affect the north but the southern half of the UK remains fine. There is uncertainty about cloud cover and temperatures. Some computer model runs are predicting the UK's hottest June day ever with temperatures close to 36C (97F) in the south. However most of the data is indicating temperatures in the low 30Cs.

By Thursday a change develops as the hot air is pushed back into the continent. Friday and the weekend will be cooler and showery. Buzz takes a look at the latest outlook.
