Summer back next week?

[Updated 10:20 07/06/2017]

Fair weather

The weather remains unsettled in the short term. Next week a drier and warmer period is likely.

Wednesday starts wet in the north east but elsewhere it is dry. This morning sunny spells develop in much of the country and the rain in the north east pulls away. During the afternoon cloud builds from the west and outbreaks of rain push into the south west, Wales and Northern Ireland. It will be quite windy.

Temperatures range from about 12C (54F) in the far north to 19C (66F) in the south east. See the rainfall radar and UK weather report map for the latest.

Tonight rain spreads eastwards across much of the country with the heaviest bursts affecting the west and northern England. Central and south eastern areas as well as Scotland probably remain mostly dry.

Tomorrow rain continues in the west, central and northern England. The south east probably has an overcast but mostly dry day and in Scotland brighter conditions are likely.

Friday brings sunshine and showers to the southern half of the UK. In the north the risk of more persistent outbreaks of rain continues.

The weekend looks changeable. Wet and windy weather pushes northeastwards on Saturday, but in the south the rain may be light and patchy. Sunday brings showers to the north but the south should have warm sunny spells. Buzz takes a look at the longer term prospects.
