Wet and very windy weather affects much of the UK today. The next few days remain unsettled but a drier period is expected next week.
Tuesday begins with heavy rain in northern Britain, Wales and central England. During the course of the day the wet and windy weather edges eastwards. Gales are likely in parts of the south and west, and localised flooding could lead to travel disruption. Clearer skies slowly return from the southwest this afternoon, but rain continues in much of central, eastern and northern Britain. In western Scotland and Northern Ireland it will be more showery.
Temperatures range from about 10C (50F) in the north to 16C (61F) in the south west. See the rainfall radar and UK weather report map for the latest.
Tonight the wet weather slowly pulls away northeastwards. Most areas become dry by the morning but rain continues in the north east.
Tomorrow brings a drier interlude but it remains windy. During the second half of the day the next batch of rain pushes into south western England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Overnight and through Thursday it spreads northeastwards with brighter and showery weather following from the southwest.
