Is it really summer?

The general picture is unsettled with all regions having rain in the coming days. The early part of summer is sometimes referred to as the European Monsoon season.

The new working week starts with heavy rain in much of northern and western Britain, and through the course of the day it slowly pushes eastwards. It will be windy with gale force gusts possible, especially in southern and western coastal districts. Rain will be heavy in the west and north, but patchier in central and south eastern England. Clearer skies return to Northern Ireland and Scotland.

Maximum temperatures range from 12C (54F) in western Scotland to 19C (66F) in the south east. See the rainfall radar and UK weather report map for the latest.

Tonight wet weather continues in much of the UK but in the north west conditions will be more showery. During the second half of the night it turns drier in the south west.

Tomorrow the rain gradually becomes confined to north eastern areas as brighter weather returns from the southwest. It remains windy and cool for June.

Wednesday brings a drier and brighter interlude but during the second half of the day the next disturbance steams in from the Atlantic. This brings another spell of wet and windy weather which continues into Thursday. South eastern England may miss the worst of it.

Friday and the weekend look changeable. Wet weather is likely with the worst conditions in the north. Buzz takes a look at the first half of June.
