Weekend weather woes

[Updated 07:00 26/05/2017]

A change in the weather is on the way. As we head through the Bank Holiday weekend a more unsettled pattern develops and this probably continues next week.

Friday is off to a fine start and the rest of the day brings long periods of sunshine. It will be breezier than during recent days but hot again. Temperatures generally peak close to 28C (82F) but local hot spots could nudge 30C (86F). Along the east coast it will be cooler. See the rain radar and UK weather report map for the latest view.

Tonight thundery showers push into Northern Ireland, south western England and Wales. Elsewhere it stays fine and warm.

Tomorrow torrential downpours and storms spread northeastwards. The heaviest ones are expected to be in the north and west as cooler air returns. South eastern England probably misses the worst, and has spells of hot and hazy sun.

Sunday bring warm sunshine but a risk of storms to the south. On Bank Holiday Monday the weather probably takes a turn for the worse. Heavy and thundery outbreaks of rain spread northwards, but Scotland may remain dry until the afternoon. Buzz looks ahead to June. Check the latest weather prospects for the Spring Bank Holiday on May 29th.
