Fine and very warm spell

[Updated 06:50 23/05/2017]

Fine weather

Much of the country will have fine and very warm weather in the next few days. The Bank Holiday weekend weather remains uncertain and there is a risk of thundery showers.

This morning it's a mostly dry start but thicker cloud is bringing a few spots of rain to the north west. Through the rest of the day southern and eastern areas have spells of warm sunshine. The west has cloudier skies and in the north west outbreaks of rain develop this afternoon.

Temperatures range from 13C (55F) in Scotland to 25C (77F) in the south. See the rain radar for the latest view.

Tonight rain affects western Scotland and in northern regions there will be quite a lot of cloud. Southern and central areas have clear spells.

Tomorrow it remains quite cloudy in Scotland. Elsewhere a sunny and very warm day is in prospect.

During Thursday and Friday the warm and sunny weather extend northwards. Temperatures probably reach 28C (82F) in the south and 25C (77F) in Scotland.

By the weekend low pressure in the Atlantic starts to comes into play. It may bring thundery downpours to the south west but also pull up a plume of even warmer air from southern Europe. This would push temperatures in the south east up towards 30C (86F). An alternative scenario is for it to track farther east bringing heavy showers and cooler air.
