Summer on the way

[Updated 09:10 21/05/2017]

Sunny day

Sunday begins with outbreaks of rain in the north west of the UK. Elsewhere it is a fine.

Through the day the southern half of the UK remains dry with sunny spells. Wet weather affects Northern Ireland this morning but during the afternoon it turns drier and possibly brighter. Scotland continues to have patchy outbreaks of rain.

Temperatures range from 12C (54F) in Scotland to a pleasantly warm 20C (68F) in the south. See the rain radar for the latest view.

Tonight wet weather moves away from Scotland to leave all areas dry. Late in the night rain returns to Northern Ireland.

Tomorrow periods of rain extend across the north and in the west they could be heavy. The south has a dry day with warm sunny spells, but also cloudier skies at times.

Scattered showers are likely on Tuesday but for much of the week high pressure will bring a taste of summer. It is set to become very warm and temperatures could reach 27C (81F) on several days. By the weekend an area of low pressure bring the risk of thundery downpours, but as this clears northeastwards high pressure probably builds back from the southwest.
