Rain pushing northwards

Friday begins with heavy rain in central and north eastern parts of England. Elsewhere it is mostly dry.

This morning sunny spells develop in western regions but elsewhere it remains murky. Outbreaks of rain continue in northern England and they will be quite heavy at times. During the afternoon they slowly push northwards. In the south and west sunny spells become more widespread but showers are likely too.

Temperatures range from a very chilly 10C (50F) in the northeast to about 16C (61F) in areas where the cloud breaks. See the rain radar for the latest view.

Tonight the wet weather moves into Scotland. Elsewhere showers become scattered, and under clearing skies it will be cold with the risk of a local ground frost.

Tomorrow rain continues in Scotland. Elsewhere widespread and heavy showers are expected but it will be brighter at times, particularly in the south. Sunday looks drier and warmer in the south, but further rain pushes into the north west. Next week may bring a change to warmer and more summery weather.
