Deluge in places tomorrow

[Updated 06:45 16/05/2017]

Flood sign

Tuesday begins with outbreaks of rain in Wales and south western England. Elsewhere it's cloudy but mostly dry and very mild.

Through the day wet weather affects western and northern areas. The rain will be patchy but heavy at times, especially in the west. Elsewhere it is a drier picture and this afternoon it becomes brighter in the north west.

Temperatures range from 12C (54F) in the north west to a  warm and humid 23C (74F) in the south east. See the rain radar for the latest view.

Tonight outbreaks of rain gradually push southeastwards across England and Wales. Scotland and Northern Ireland have a dry night with clear periods.

Tomorrow heavy outbreaks of rain are expected to push northeastwards across much of central and southern England. In places rainfall totals of between 30mm and 40mm are possible and there could be some surface flooding. The north west has sunshine and showers.

During Thursday morning the wet weather clears away from the south east to leave fresher conditions. Changeable weather continues for the rest of the week as an upper level trough sits over the UK. This brings the potential for heavy and widespread showers, but sunny spells are also likely to develop. Buzz looks at whether the drought is ending.
