Turning unsettled this week

[Updated 07:15 09/05/2017]

Storm cloud

Tuesday begins cloudy in southern and central areas. In the north clear spells have led to a patchy frost with temperatures falling to -4C (25F).

During the morning sunny spells develop in the north and west but elsewhere there will be a lot of cloud. This afternoon bright spells become more widespread, and the east which has been gloomy recently could see the sun.

Temperatures range from about 17C (63F) in Northern Ireland to 12C (54F) in places where the cloud stubbornly persists. See the postcode forecasts and rain radar for the latest view.

Overnight thicker cloud pushes into northern regions and the south west. Elsewhere clear periods lead to a chilly night and locally there could be a touch of ground frost.

Tomorrow rain affects central and northern Scotland. The rest of the country stays dry and with more sunshine than today it will be warmer.

During the second half of the week it turns more unsettled but warmer as low pressure in the Atlantic pumps up air from the southwest. On Thursday showery rain spreads northwards across the southern half of the UK, and it could become heavy. Through Friday wet weather pushes northwards into Scotland and thundery showers follow into the south. The weekend looks changeable too. Buzz looks ahead to mid May.
